Artistic Direction
Mauricio Carrasco, PhD.
Dr Mauricio Carrasco is an artistic researcher born in Chile, Swiss and Australian citizen resident in Geneva.
He holds two Master's degrees from the Haute École de Musique de Genève HEM and a PhD from the University of Melbourne, where he researched the figure of the Actor-Musician and developed a body of collaborative new music theatre works.
Throughout his career, he has been involved in the creation and development of cultural infrastructure that promotes and explores new artistic expressions in academic contemporary music, such as the Swiss Ensemble Vortex and the Bendigo International Festival of Exploratory Music BIFEM in Australia.
Carrasco argues against the stranglehold of specialisation in artistic disciplines and aims to develop transdisciplinary projects that promote intertwined and transversal convergences between the arts, philosophy and sciences.
He is the artistic director of CRI création recherche interdisciplinarité in Geneva and of The_Decameron_Project, launched during the COVID19 pandemic, which, like Boccaccio's Decameron, artistically touches on memories of lost ways of life and seeks to map the emergence of new ritual norms as they manifest over the course of ten days (from the Greek deca=ten, meron=days).
His research interests focus on the post-humanities, which leads him to critically engage with the performativity of technologically enhanced artworks. Through queer autoethnographic methods and Ericksonian Hypnosis, he explores issues of subalternity, postcolonialism, psychoanalysis and 'gender troubles' unfolding in the experimental artefacts and academic outcomes he proposes as an artist-scholar.

“We must not tell ourselves that
the indeterminate, the uncertain, the un-obvious, is a weakness, but that it
opens our minds to unexpected forms of complexities. The Tremulous thought is
not a thought out of fear, it is thought that is opposed to systematic
thinking. We understand the world better if we tremble with it.”

C R I aims for “supradisciplinarity,” an umbrella concept defined by Balsiger et al. (2004) for all those times we trespass disciplinary boundaries and exit monodisciplinary practices, those that reign in the realm of quantitative/positivist research that rules much of academia.
To achieve this, C R I
- Promotes and produces projects in the cultural and artistic fields
- Develops research and creative projects with a focus on trespassing disciplines and geographic boundaries
- Presents Artistic Research outcomes in different settings and in different forms that include concerts, performances, publications, conferences, and web and multimedia creation.

Pour cela, C R I
